When you work for a plumbing company you pay attention to things that could have an impact on your pipes and your wallet.  Not that you didn’t consider it before but it moves to a whole new level.  So when you walk into your home restroom and see something in a toilet that shouldn’t be there you start playing the “What Doesn’t Belong” game with the culprit.  You’re actually ready to post a sign that says,

“Only the 3 P’s Please…Pee, Poo and toilet Paper”.

I know you’re thinking that it really can’t be that big of deal, right?  I mean things fall in all the time that no one in their right mind is going to want to dig out. Unless of course it’s a phone, I mean I think most people would go for their phone.  What I’m talking about those things that people willingly flush because it’s really out of sight, out of mind.

Let’s take old medications for one.  I mean what better way to get rid of the prescriptions we no longer use right?  We’re not supposed to throw them in the trash so we go with the flush option.  Unfortunately our water plants aren’t equipped to handle cleaning up this type of chemical soup.  So that leaves those chemicals in the water that you are partaking of on a daily basis not to mention it’s messing up aquatic life.  We’re talking fish and five year olds unknowingly on Viagra and Prozac.

That’s not all.  Let’s talk Q-tips, cotton balls, diapers, dental floss, paper towels, kitty litter, feminine products and flushable wipes.  That’s right.  Flushable wipes are NOT flushable.  All of the items listed are not suitable for the waste treatment plants and what you flush may come right back at you.  Not only that, but 99% of the items listed will expand in your pipes.  The continued use of your toilet as a great “recycle bin” will end with a call for someone to unclog what you can’t and maybe some, oh so unpleasant, backup in your home.  What do you do in those cases?  Call for help.  That’s where we come in.  We can help when something that you thought was destined to enter the great abyss decides to make a pit stop in your pipes.

So the likelihood of one flushable wipe causing some damage or clogging pipes is very slim. And truth be known most of us have done it once or maybe twice. Sure some toys, teeth or other unlikely items may require some help in retrieving, but habit is what we’re talking about here.

Make yours a habit of remembering that this great indoor convenience is only for the 3 P’s and that your toilet is not a trash can.
